Why have a governing body

The governing body acts as a 'critical friend' to the headteacher, to support them in the performace of their functions. To ask questions and give constructive criticism.

Responsible for overall policies of the school

To ensure the headteacher manages the school in accordance with the policies.

To elect a chair each year

To conduct business fairly and efficently

To ensure funds entrusted to them are administered properly.

What is the Chair responsible for

Leading the work of the governing body and taking public responsibility for that work

Meeting the needs of individual governors for training by providing course details and organising training for the whole governing body as neccessary.

Recieve and deal with correspondence on behalf of the governing body.

Liaise with the headteacher and clerk in preparation of the agenda for meetings.
